Discussion Questions About Me and the Media

What aspects life and what lifestyles are not represented in the mass media today? Why do you think that is? Stuff life Religion, politics, beliefs, etc are not represented much, possibly because they are more "touchy" subjects and some people may take something you say the wrong way. These are some topics that have to be discussed somewhat carefully to avoid offending someone. Mediums such as TV or magazines probably don't discuss these because they don't want to offend a reader or viewer and stop them from paying attention to say that specific show or magazine.

Explain how you think people can be influenced, both positively and negatively, by advertising.

How someone dresses, acts, feels, etc. may be caused by the media. The media may influence someone to wear certain clothes because they are what is considered "in". A girl may not feel good about herself because she doesn't think she's as pretty or skinny as what the media says she should be. Ads about drinking or smoking may make someone want to drink or smoke to feel cool. The media doesn't always have negative affects though. Someone may feel good about themself thanks to the media or may choose not to drink or smoke when seeing the effects on tv or an ad.
