People in the media today feel they have to watch what is popular or do what is popular to feel "in". Lots of people obsess over how they look, what their body is like, what clothes they wear, what shows they watch, what music they listen to, etc. Someone may hope that if they wear the clothes considered "in", they may become popular or noticed. These people want attention so they follow a trend.
